UEFA Europa League: Tomorrow We Find Out Who Our Finalists Are

Tomorrow, May 5th, we'll know who our finalists are. Those 2 clubs who have endured to have a chance for the ultimate prize in Dublin. Despite being UEFA's second tier competition, the Europa League, in it's 2nd season, has produced some excellent quality matches which have led people to argue that certain sides within the competition this year could even have contended for the UEFA Champions League.

The 2 semi-finals have 2 different stories. One has already provided us with a clear path whereas the other is a bit cloudy. FC Porto have all but secured passage to the final after thrashing Villarreal CF 5-1 at home; however, in our other tie, SL Benfica maintains a slight edge over fellow Portuguese participants SC Braga at 2-1.

Based upon the poll on our home page, our reader's believe that Benfica will not only reach the final but take the trophy home with them. Their bitter rivals FC Porto grabbed the second most amount of votes although odds are that they are the heavily favored side to win the competition. At the moment, signs do point to a Porto v Benfica clash in Dublin which would be reminiscent of the recent quarrel Real Madrid and Barcelona went through.  These sides have matched up 5 times already this season with Porto going away with most of the spoils which ironically included a 5-0 league thrash of Benfica just as Barcelona did to Real Madrid.

Jorge Jesus and Benfica are hoping to avoid anymore comparisons with the other Iberian clash, but that may only be achieved in his and Benfica's favor by lifting the trophy in Dublin. It will be interesting to see how matters play out tomorrow, very interesting indeed.
